P1 Group Recognized for Fire Life Safety Efforts

kennedy-sanders_fire-safety-instructor Kennedy Sanders, P1 start and test manager, fire life safety testing and maintenance for Las Vegas Sheet Metal Local 88.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - An article in the NEMIC News (National Energy Management and Institute Committee) recognized P1 Group and Las Vegas Sheet Metal Local 88 for their efforts to educate building owners about fire life safety.

Kennedy Sanders, P1 start and test manager, and his team inspect and maintain fire and smoke dampers and smoke control systems at many buildings in Las Vegas. He and Brad Davis, P1/Las Vegas operations manager were featured in the .

Sanders and his family evacuated during a hotel fire while on vacation several years ago and he was a medical assistant when 87 people died in the 1980 Las Vegas MGM Hotel fire - so he knows well what can happen when fire damper systems fail.

Sanders is an instructor in Local 88鈥檚 new HVAC Fire Life Safety Demonstration Lab, which teaches apprentices as well as fire officials and building owners the importance of maintaining and testing smoke control systems. Without testing, no one knows if the systems are working and if they aren鈥檛, smoke is not contained.

鈥淭hese systems prevent deaths that we know are unnecessary 鈥 deaths from smoke inhalation,鈥 said Sanders. 鈥淏ut only if they are working properly.鈥
