K-State Junior Earns P1 Group Construction Science Scholarship

That鈥檚 why P1 created the Construction Science Scholarship, awarded each year to a promising student in the Kansas State University Construction Science program.
This year鈥檚 recipient is K-State junior Casey Cheek, a native of McPherson, Kan.
鈥淚 have always had a love for building things and the process of how things are put together. Actually seeing a finished project is one of the most rewarding things,鈥� Cheek said. 鈥淎fter college I hope to become a project manager for a construction company in the Midwest.鈥�
According to P1 Group President Kollin Knox, P1 originally made a gift to the KSU Foundation in 2008, and began awarding the scholarship the following year.
鈥淪tudents graduating with a degree from the Construction Science & Management program possess a strong foundation and understanding of our industry upon which they can build at P1 Group."
鈥淭hese graduates are able to enter the workforce and make an immediate and positive impact on the organization and the industry through associations like MCA and NECA," Knox said.
P1 Group has a long-standing relationship with K-State鈥檚 Architectural Engineering and Construction Science & Management departments and numerous K-State graduates working at the company.
鈥淲e wanted to give back in a way that benefits the students who are interested in pursuing a career in the mechanical and electrical contracting industry,鈥� Knox said.
鈥淪cholarships like these are very important in that they not only help the student financially, but also show there are people who truly care about students and the future of the construction industry,鈥� Cheek said. 鈥淭his scholarship helped me with the financial aspect of my college education and inspires me to one day give back to students who pursue careers in the construction field.鈥�
